Summer Solstice 2019
In the northern hemisphere, the Summer Solstice 2019 is on June 21st.
This is the longest day of the year and also goes by the name of Midsummer or Litha.
In London the Sun will rise at 04:43:00 and will set at 21:21:29.
This gives us in the UK a daytime (when the sun shines) of around 16 hours, 38 minutes and 29 seconds.
Of course the dark period is very short at this time of year.
The further north you go, daytime increases.
Rekyavik, Iceland gets a daytime of 21 hours, 08 minutes and 15 seconds - no darkness
In the UK, around 3000BC, work started at Stonehenge, Wiltshire in appreciation of the Sun God.
This Wonder of the World pre-dates the pyramids in Egypt.
I have never been to witness the sunrise although it is on my wish list so hopefully soon I will get there.
There are loads of activities for pagans there over the whole week.
People all over the northern hemisphere will be celebrating the Wiccan Sabbat of Litha so how will you be celebrating?
I will be with my partner and taking in plenty of countryside activities.
Up to now though we have nothing social booked in our diaries but we are hoping to take in a social event with a bonfire.

You would love Stonehenge, at this time, trust me.
Re: Summer Solstice 2019
I love the Summer Solstice and can't wait.
So much happens around that time of year as the Sun God just dips below the horizon and comes back to warm us a few hours later.
Half the sky is dark and part of it is light - this is truly an amazing sight where I live.
For a few days before, during and after, I will be taking long countryside walks and nipping in a favourite forest of mine.
On the 21st we should be having a barbecue if plans go right.
Yes indeed, the old Summer Solstice is my best time of year.

Without any doubt at all, this is the best time of year for me. Oh I just love life in the Summer Solstice period. We have loads planned here and there will be a dance around the fire
Re: Summer Solstice 2019
I have my altar all set up and ready.
It's going to be a great time even if this terrible weather doesn't clear.

Re: Summer Solstice 2019
I must say that I am looking forward to tomorrow - the 21st June.
I love the Summer Solstice and the sky at this time of year is spectacular.
However, tomorrow we will be spending most time in the pub but if we have a clear sky, you can bet we will be merry outdoors.

Re: Summer Solstice 2019
Here we are on the longest day of the year and I will be working until the early hours. I couldn't get the day off to do my thing. So this afternoon we are going to take a walk around the lake and enjoy the early part of the day. Oh will I be calling for some positive energy soon because I need a little help with things.
Have a good day everyone

Re: Summer Solstice 2019
Just celebrated an amazing Summer Solstice. Drinks flowed all night believe it or not
The beauty was between midnight and around 2am - wow.
We watched as the Sun God Flirted with the Moon Goddess for ages.
The Moon Goddess looked stunning. We all admit to having loads to drink but never before have we saw such beauty as last night.
Best Midsummer ever and a great success.
