I would say so.
Paganism never died and many other customs and traditions live on from way back when.
Even if there is no direct link to the threefold law, it may have a connection to something similar.
Like Ostara, which became Easter, there are clues which say that many things live on.
The phrase (or similar) "it comes in threes" is still very common today and it is said regularly, even from the younger generations.
This is a case of us saying things and never realising the roots of what is said.
I have done no research myself, but just on the basis of this thread and that many things can be traced back a long time, I would say that the phrase itself has an ancient background.

You will hear this when two negative things happen to someone and they anticipate another coming but never on two positive events.
Maybe there is something in that but I would say there is a strong connection as the coincidence would be way too much in my opinion.

Here's a thought, once you reach the magical three mark and another bad thing comes along, look out because there might be another 2 more following ;)
