It comes in threes

Its only recently that I realised what this phrase may mean - it comes in threes.
Am I correct in thinking that when we say this it is referring to the threefold law?
For example, you get into two difficult or nasty situations and you say it comes in threes while knowing another nasty will come along soon.
I remember this phrase going back decades and my mother was always saying it.
So does it refer to the threefold law?

My mother would also say this too. I imagine it refers to what you suggest. If it doesn't there is a very striking similarity so its hard to think otherwise.

Brilliant question and something I never thought about before. I guess it does come from tradition in which case it will go back so long.

I never though for one minute about this but maybe its been the threefold law all the time. Amazing what we take for granted.

A few weeks ago my car was struck by another car, then shortly after I fell over and hurt myself.
I then waited and waited for the third strike but unless it was a minor one, I never got it.
Still waiting so that I can start cursing :lol:

Story of my week this week! I'm surviving though through it. Genuine friends restore faith in humanity a bit more this week. :shock:

Yes indeed, you and me both.
Monday I was hit by a car and knocked off my bike.
Wednesday I was stung with an unexpected massive bill.
Thursday saw a so called friend stab me in the back (not literally I may add).

This week did give me a shock so I am going to take a few deep breaths and take stock.
For me it come in threes in one week and made me so depressed.

Oh dear Paula, I hope things improve. I normally lock myself away if I feel this sort of stuff is coming my way.
Then again I always lock myself away when it's Friday 13th and always have done.
